Emily Gale is an English author now resident in Melbourne. She was asked to write a biography of ornithologist Gisela Kaplan for children as part of the Aussie Stem Stars series, books which celebrate Australia’s experts in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Emily reads an extract from her book which shows how a mimicking magpie led to Gisela’s second PhD and a love of Australian birds.
